Bankside Views / No Soul for Sale

2010 Tate Modern, London

As part of Tate Modern’s tenth anniversary celebrations Black Dogs were invited to design an event for Bankside Residents group and take part in the No Soul For Sale ‘festival of independents’ that took place in the Turbine Hall.

For the Bankside Residents party we facilitated local residents in creating an exhibition of objects and accompanying publication that said something about their relationship to Tate Modern. As part of No Soul For Sale we created a replica of the pub in which Black Dogs met and hosted discussions with passers-by around the challenges of independence and autonomy in the institutional art world.

We also worked out the total value of the free labour the organisations that were taking part had given to the event and used this as the tie-breaker question for a pub quiz performance on the main stage.
